Freeze-dried sweets are delicious straight from the bag, but they work in the kitchen too. They're dry and brittle, so they're easy to crush or grind. Here are a few simple ideas.
Colourful sprinkles 🌈
Put a handful of freeze-dried Skittles in a bag and crush them with a rolling pin. You'll get colourful, fruity sprinkles for ice cream, yoghurt, porridge or cupcake icing. Sprinkle just before serving, because they soften quickly on a moist dessert.
Dessert in a jar 🍨
Layer Greek yoghurt or whipped cream with crushed freeze-dried sweets in a jar. Fritt chews and apple rings work well. Serve straight away so the layers of sweets stay crunchy.
Cocoa with marshmallows ☕
Drop freeze-dried marshmallows into hot cocoa. At first they float and crunch, then after a moment they soften and form a sweet foam on top.
Cake and cupcake decorations 🎂
Whole freeze-dried gummies, such as rainbow flowers or bears, look great on a cake. Add them at the very end, ideally just before serving, and don't put the decorated cake in the fridge.
Milkshake 🥤
Blend milk, ice cream and a handful of freeze-dried candy. The sweets dissolve and give the shake flavour and colour. You can keep some back for sprinkling on top.
The golden rule 💧
Moisture takes away the crunch, so add freeze-dried sweets last. We cover this in more detail in our guide on how to store freeze-dried sweets.
